2:08 pm - Updated List of WH40K IG Sale Items
Here's what's left! :)

ArmyTransport Motor Pool $45
In great shape. 3 trays completely untouched (4", 3", 2 1/2"). Another 3" tray has been punched for 2 tanks, and the other 2 1/2" tray has half unpunched. You could probably use some craft glue and as you pull for new shapes, put the foam back in the holes to reshape them and use the trays.

Chimera $30
mostly built, and undercoated (pretty thin, probably wouldn't have to strip to recoat; if you just wanted to paint your scheme and weren't depending on the undercoat for part of it you might get away with starting as it is); the bits to complete it are included in that little tub in the pics)  The hull weapon has been done so that it slides on and off.  If you rig any other hull weapon the same way, you can alternate weapons and have flexibility in your army list.

9:54 pm - First Crack at my 40K Stuff goes to my friends.
Yo. Here's the stuff I'm planning to sell off and the planned Buy It Now price for each. I'm throwing up the pics, too. If anybody wants something, just post it in the comments and we'll work out the details. I'd rather sell them in these chunks, but if you absolutely must have something parted out I'll consider it depending on what it is. If you'd like something but don't like my asking price, please email me or catch me on chat and we'll discuss something.  I tried to cut a good balance based on GW prices, Ebay recent sales, and taking condition into account in some cases.

If you know anyone that would be interested, please send them a link to the post.  Thanks!

Sorry for the length, but the LJ cut feature has always, always sucked.

4 Sentinels
$30
Got these in kitbash form, and they're still in kitbash form. There's enough stuff for 4 Sentinels, but you may need to find some weapon bits if you don't like what's there. Pic should show everything pretty clearly. On two of them, you'll have to drill and pin one leg because whoever had them before me glued the legs on and then snapped them off. Won't affect the finished model at all once you've pinned them. The crap primer on them is pretty thin, you could probably just go right over it.

6:01 pm - Why I'll probably just stop and sell my WH40K IG army
So for a while I had been waffling back and forth on whether to keep and finish (and maybe even play) my Warhammer 40K IG army. The other day, I got it all out and started painting again. "This'll be fun," I thought.

So I start painting stuff. Specifically, I busted out my storm troopers and did a basecoat of black on weapons and gear, and then put the highlights on their armor. They were (are? nah, probably were) coming along nicely.

As I was looking at the rest of it all, I realized that I probably had a few models that didn't really need to be painted, since there were likely to be some that wouldn't be on the table in a 500pt or 1000pt game. So I got my Codex out and started looking at what I would include at those points levels...and realized that I had made a mistake back when I was originally planning my army.

I needed more guardsmen, because I had missed the bit where each infantry platoon had to have its own command squad. That put me behind on guardsmen! Well, no worries, I don't need that many to fill it back out. So I hop online and start looking for deals.

A random forum conversation that I stumbled across tipped me off to ...you guessed it, a new Codex. And prices have gone up...again.

So I'm down about $50-60 of guardsmen and a new $25 book? And how long will it be until the new version of the core book comes out? Another week? Two?

I realize that the Codex I have is a few years old. I realize that the core version of the rules has been out for a couple of years. But you know what? This game is a fucking money pit. It's a massive time sink. And I never get to play it. And in fact, judging from the last time I did play, I'm not even sure I really like it all that much.

So fuck it. I guess I need to seriously look at the best way to sell my stuff off. As much as I'd like to finish it and get the satisfaction of having a completed, nice looking army of little dudes supported by little walkers and little tanks, it's not worth it in terms of money or time for a game that changes too fast for me to care to keep up given how little if any that I play it.

4:29 pm - Chem aggravation: because posting it everywhere is cathartic.
I did worse on the chem test with easier material that I felt the most prepared for.

On top of that bullshit, now that I've looked into the college I'm going to next semester (at which I will finish out my pre-professional requirements), I know that I don't even need this fucking class. I didn't have to put up with the horrible professor, the horrible text, the extra stress and time sink, any of it. I. Don't. Need. A. Chemistry. Class. For. My. Degree.

It turns out that the only reason chem was on my path was that the UofA requires chem I and II as a prereq for their Physiology class. Well, guess what? I don't need to take a 4 hour anatomy class with a lab and a 4 hour physiology class with a lab, I need 4 hours of anatomy and physiology with a lab, which is offered 30 minutes up the road as a one semester course, and not only does it transfer to UAMS, but it's the one they pretty much expect you to take before transferring.

But did the advisory staff at the University of Arkansas know that? Fuck no, because they are the most useless group of jackasses this side of the "financial aid counselors" at that bureaucratic cesspool (whose idea of helping you pay for college is handing you a brochure about student loans that was printed by Citi).

So my 4.0 is gone because I took a fucking class that I didn't need to take. I wasted time, energy, stress, and money on it for nothing.

Joy made a good point just now as I was telling her what I made on the exam and bitching about not needing the class. She said "you should find out if your GPA from the UofA is going to matter at all since you're transferring to another school for the fall and getting your degree from someone else anyway, and if not, just stop going to the class." As much as I want to finish the class and keep as high a GPA as I can regardless, it might be worth the mental "fuck you" I'd be giving them to do just that.

3:32 pm - Amusing story neighbors, and a bit of bias exposure
I'm listening to All Things Considered on NPR at the moment, and a few minutes ago I was hit with an amusing couple of stories placed back to back.

More like snippets, really.

First up, they ran a bit for an upcoming story on the "quiverfull" movement. I had never heard of such a thing, and was amazed in that sort of "I just had the strongest urge to vomit" way that we're all familiar with. I'd link it, but I don't want to taint my LJ. Just run it through Google.

And right after that, as I was trying to recover and wash that taste out of my mouth with coffee, they ran a news brief on a ruling that has been made that orders the FDA to, in a nutshell, stop letting politics and moralism interfere with access to Plan B contraception.

That's the bit that I found amusing; that these little snippets happened to run next to one another.

On the Plan B thing:

Here's how MSNBC is reporting it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29840881/

Here's how Fox "news" is reporting it: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/plan-b-ruling-endangers-health-parental-rights/

Yeah.

9:59 am - Ouch. That was annoying.
Wrecked the bike this morning on the way to class.  My gf and I are fine beyond very minor injuries, thank goodness.  The bike has, oh, $100 worth of damage, two pairs of jeans were ruined, and we're both missing class.

Sometimes you just feel like something is out to get you.  Sigh.

We weren't going too fast, we weren't being reckless.  I have a feeling I need to tweak my front suspension a bit and get new tires.  Also, the pavement is very cold, and while I rode in just fine yesterday by myself on snow, it's a very different weight distribution when you have a passenger, and with the different load, my tire+pavement combo just wasn't any good.

I should have just taken the car in and put up with having to park a mile away from class.

Overall, I just feel stupid and hurty and irritated.

"Pastor Harry" on the History Channel show burning an effigy of Santa, because Santa is obviously the work of Satan (I mean, he says, just unscramble the letters).

Holy shit I can't believe I'm still amazed (in that disgusted, I can't believe this shit way)  that these fucking people exist.

11:52 am - Random Wish for RPG E-publishers
[info]adamjury  has a fun post up regarding settings that people would like to see made into licensed RPGs.  In the course of reading through the comments, I saw that someone had already suggested what I had in mind: a Cowboy Bebop game.

This lead to [info]highmoonmedia  suggesting a game for Cowboy Bebop play, called Bounty Head Bebop.  I had actually skimmed the pitch for this game over at RPGNow the other day, and it had apparently fallen flat enough that even knowing this game was out there (although it had already faded from my conscious mind), I still commented in support of a good Cowboy Bebop game.

This lead to me posting the following, and I felt like propagating it to my LJ.

I had actually run across [the suggested Bebop rpg] the other day, but as usual (and admittedly, for good reason) the preview doesn't give you enough of the mechanics or enough of the setting to decide if I'd like the game.

Random wish:

That e-publishers would, rather than arbitrarily showing the first x pages of their game, would pick and choose several pages from different parts of the book, to give an actual feel for their game. Give me a couple that show a little chargen, some mechanics in action, a couple that show me that you're keepign me from having to do all the work anyway (aka show me the gear and the vehicles), and a bit about the game's included setting. It would be really easy to do this without essentially giving me the game for free, and might actually mean a sale for you.

Of course, this isn't applicable if your product is a one sheet supplement or something of that nature, but for the multitude of full games out there that are struggling for my gaming dollar, following this simple advice just might mean a couple more sales for you.  Just a thought.

9:17 am - Are you freaking kidding me?
Okay, so yesterday I called the health clinic on campus to try and get an appointment to get my ear looked at.  They told me that for what I wanted to be seen for, I would just have to do a walk in between blah blah and blah blah.  I couldn't do that that day, so I said OK and planned to do it today.  I just called this morning to confirm that they were doing walk in hours.  They asked what I wanted to be seen for, and I told them.  They said "yeah, just come in during (hours)".  I went in during hours.

They gave me an appointment an hour and 45 minutes after that time.

SRSLY?  I couldn't have an appointment, so I had to walk in so you could give me an appointment?

Stupid bitches.

6:29 pm - I do not understand "sports" culture.
The individuals on that team do not know what you think of their performance.  If they did, they probably wouldn't care.

Your views on a team don't have any affect on how that team performs.

That team can't hear you.

That team's performance doesn't (or at least, shouldn't) affect your self-worth, and shouldn't affect your mood to the point that "your day is ruined" if that team loses.

That team's performance has nothing to do with anything other than whether they win or lose the game.

Those people play that sport because they get paid a lot to play that sport.  I'm sure lots of them really like playing, too.

I just really fail to get it somehow.  And I enjoy watching some sports occasionally.  But what drives people to have "a team", invest emotionally in that team, track player stats, team stats, etc?  Yeah, no idea whatsoever.

Now that wank has become a wank about whether it is indeed...a wank.

I may be done with forums for a while after all.  90% of the people that used to make hanging out at that particular forum have either moved on or pretty much stopped posting anyway.  What a waste.

9:09 pm - Have you ever seen this in a game?
I'm reading through an indy game that I found online called "Crimes People Play", and I just stumbled across the following under the Health section:

If you and the rest of the detectives are all
knocked unconscious your adversaries may take
you prisoner or leave you for dead. In any case, you
will eventually awaken wounded and weary.
Detectives cannot die in Crimes People Play.

Really?  Cannot die?

Now, of course you can immediately just change this for your game, but still, it seems odd to have that specifically spelled out in the game.  I imagine it has more to do with the intended feel of the game than anything.  I've only just started reading, so I really don't know, but still.

Ever seen this in a game?

edited to include link to game

A few years ago, I became aware of just how much the internet allowed you to interact with the larger gaming community.  Forums, lists, player databases.  I became a fairly regular member of several communities.  I ended up as a mod on Dumpshock, and I'm an old veteran of the Fear the Boot community.  I was a member of other groups here and there, but in that order, those were the ones where I was the most prominent.

And I was prominent.  I posted in nearly every gaming related thread there was.  I discussed, I argued, I postulated, I argued some more.  I was having some kind of fun through most of it.  I certainly did spent enough time at it.  And thus it went for years.

Here's the result:  I think I'm sick of caring what other gamers think.  What made me realize this?  That post I threw up on the Fear the Boot forums.  It was supposed to be an amusing little story about how quickly my girlfriend picked up on something that a lot of old hats have picked up on and hashed out countless times, and did it in her first ever table top RPG session.  Instead, it turned into one of the biggest wanks that I've seen on the site in a while.

And it hit me:  wanks between people that aren't going to change their mind.  That's what happens when you connect out to the larger role playing community.  And while that is certainly a valid form of entertainment, it just isn't doing it for me as much anymore.

Case in point is that D&D alignment wank.  I like the alignment system as I understand and use it.  I don't like the way some people see it, and I think the game loses a lot when you take it out (both feel and mechanics).  I think that a lot of people just fundamentally misunderstand it.  What's new about this?  I don't give a shit that they're "wrong" anymore.  I don't care how they play.  I don't care if they play the way I do.

It's a furthering of my article from a ways back regarding that you sometimes need to just step away from the internet and realize that the only people whose opinion and thoughts matter at all when it comes to your game and gaming fun are you and the other people at your gaming table.

Only now when I come across it, it just seems so annoying.  Again, using that specific example, you just end up reading the exact same conversation over, and over, and over, and over, with nobody changing their minds.  And nor should they, really, as long as what they think works for them and their table.

Anyway, I doubt I'll pull back from the wider gaming community entirely, but I've pretty much stopped expecting interactions with it to be all that useful or beneficial.  At least not when it's a discussion of something that's completely subjective or so open to interpretation that there isn't an answer.  When it comes to discovering new games and stuff, it's great, but I just really don't care much for the arguments anymore.
